MEET YOUR 2018 DISTRICT 107 REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES
Rep. Susan Concannon
Kansas Representative Susan Concannon recently completed her third term serving the rural 3-1/2 county 107th District in the state legislature.
Susan’s current committee work includes Appropriations, Taxation, and Health and Human Services, where she serves as Vice Chair. She has past committee experience on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Federal and State Affairs, and budget subcommittees. The House Republicans elected Susan the Majority Caucus Chair, where she served for 2 years. In 2015 she was selected by fellow rural legislators to chair the House Rural Caucus. Susan also serves as the Council of State Government’s (CSG) Health and Human Services Committee Co-chairman and the executive committee for the regional organization. The Reforming States Group recently appointed Susan to the Rural Health Project for their organization.
Susan was previously active in Leadership Mitchell County, as well Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership (KARL). Legislative leadership learning opportunities to which Susan was selected were: Kansas Leadership Center’s Leadership and Legacy program, Boway Institute for Legislative Leadership Development, Henry Toll Fellowship Program, and the Milbank Foundation Emerging Leaders Program.
Susan has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Bethany College in Lindsborg. She resides in Beloit, where she has served the community for over 31 years through community service, volunteerism, and a term on the Beloit City Council. Prior to running for office, Susan helped start Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation to support the community hospital and health initiatives in the region and served as its executive director; as well as establishing Solomon Valley Transportation system. Susan and her husband of 37 years, Craig have 3 grown children, and three grandsons.
Mayor Sam Sacco
Sam Sacco was born in 1946 and graduated High School in 1965. He served in the US Air Force from 1965 to 1969, and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1973, with a BS in Business.
Sam started his career in agriculture after graduation and has since worked for Cargill, AGP, South Texas Grain, Itochu, Levelland Hockley County Ethanol, and Nesika Energy in Scandia, KS. He spent 23 years as the General Manager of both Grain and Ethanol operations. In addition to dealing with domestic, he also worked directly with exports in the Asian, Central American, South American and European Markets. Sam retired as General Manager of Nesika Energy in December of 2016. During his last two years with the company Sam held the position of Chairman of the Board of Renew Kansas, an association made up of the Ethanol Plants located within the State.
Sam currently serves as the City Commissioner of Concordia, KS and as of last January, Mayor of Concordia. He is also the current President of the Kansas Councilmen/Commissioners Association, which is affiliated with the League of Kansas Municipalities.
In addition, Mayor Sacco currently serves on the Board of Cloud Corporation, the Board of the Brown Grand Theater and the Board of the Concordia Library. Besides serving on the Brown Grand Theater Board, Sam is also an active member of the Brown Grand Players.
